2009/2010 Chapter Education News

David Wilson, Program Committee Chairman

The Chapter education year is starting to wind down with only three sessions remaining plus our March Madness annual meeting. Attendance has been good especially considering the current economic times. We hope offering free attendance to members has added value to your memberships. Please be sure to express your thanks to our Chapter Sponsors because without their support we could not have been able to afford this approach to education.

Avoiding Denial Tug o' War in Managed Care Agreements

 Tuesday March 9, 2010
12 - 1:30 PM EST

Session Description:

Hospitals and healthcare providers worldwide face increasingly complex challenges as health plans and employers attempt to rein in costs associated with the rising costs of healthcare expenses. As employers reduce their workforces, and separated employees are faced with rising unemployment for longer periods, health plans find themselves with fewer covered lives paying premiums. As such, more claims will be denied for an increasing number of reasons, many of which will not be addressed by equitable negotiated contract language. The combination of contract language ambiguity and a variety of benefit designs will leave both revenue cycle staff and patients frustrated and defenseless unless they rethink their strategies and develop business rules to guide managed care contract analysts and negotiators.

We'll review common causes of technical and clinical denials, and how to implement solutions to appeal medical necessity denials, ambiguous ERISA coverage denials, and step-by-step procedures to help you increase your success with denials. It will include highly practical approaches to address state-specific issues and opportunities that hospital executives must consider as they position their organizations for success with managed care revenues.
